October 6

We have been continuing all of our studies in the classroom.  Last week we ended the week by attending the book fair.  Thank you to Jonathan, Aden, Joseph, and Anya as well as to the Friends of WHMS for their donations of books to our class library.   We will enjoy reading those new books.  We having been reading,

Summer according to Humphrey, by Betty G. Birney as our class read-aloud.  Our class has been captivated by the Humphrey books for awhile now and our new students are just as enraptured!

We are week 4 of our spelling sequence.  The children are in spelling groups and practice their words everyday. Each group is denoted by a color.   Kristi has set up the Spelling City web-site.  The children should know the color of their group/list, but if not here it is…. Level 1 Green

For math practice or homework this week visit www.aplusmath.com   website.  There is a variety of games and activities to do.  Your child will need help visiting these sites and assistance in finding their level of work. Please let us know if you have any questions about accessing these sites.

Thank you for your assistance with the Writer’s Notebook project.  The children are very attached to their books and were excited to share their pictures and designs with us.  We will make time for them to share their cover designs with their classmates.

We painted our topographical maps of Africa and noted the desert, grassland, and forest biomes.  This week we will begin looking at the political (country) boundaries and flags.

We are enjoying using the tools in our simple machine work.  Thank you to Joseph for bringing in a stump.  We are using wedges (nails) to hammer into the wood.  We will use a lever (hammer claw) to get them out.  Thank you Jordan for bringing in safety goggles for us to use.
