News from Maryann and Ann’s Class             November 8, 2010, 2010

 

Thank you for helping your child design fascinating experiments to share with the class.  This week we will launch our study of Africa.  We will study this continent according to its biomes.  Biomes will be used as a basis for understanding the adaptation of people, plants and animals to the environment.  We will delve into the subjects of geography, history, zoology, botany, literature and art to study Africa’s natural environments.  If you

Homework:  Spelling study guides were in the Woodland Hill folders on Friday, November 5th.  These guides were photo copies of the spelling workbook, as well as your child’s handwritten guide.  We are currently studying List 9.  Our challenge list is as follows:  desert, grassland, wetland, forest, ocean.

 

Harcourt:  First years- Tomas  Rivera,   Follow up work:  Your Own Family Story, p. 85  Please do this assignment at home.  Return by Wednesday, November 10th

Second Years-Hedgehog Bakes a Cake, Follow up work:  Vocabulary-Writing Connection:  Write a recipe of your favorite snack.  Include ingredients and step by step instructions or, Think and Respond Questions.  Please do this assignment at home.

 

Third Years-Wild Shots, Follow up work:  Reading Comprehension Questions.  (Bubble Questions)  This assignment can be done at home or at school.

Math Homework:  First and second years  Children should complete at least 5 pages per week.  Mom and Dad should check their work.  If you feel a concept is particularly difficult, send the book in and I would be glad to give your child a lesson.  Third years have a homework folder with photo-copied pages from a third year workbook.  This week’s pages have to do with the division.  Return in the homework folder on Friday, November 12th.  Memorize multiplication facts of 6.

Writer’s Workshop:  We are planning our first Author’s Tea.  It will be held on Thursday, November 18th   at 10:30 am and Friday, November 19th   at 1:30 pm. 

We need volunteers to type manuscripts.  Let us know if you can help.

November’s Optional Monthly Homework:  Read a book and write a book report.

Missing Raincoat:  Has anyone seen Maris’ nearly new pink LL Bean raincoat?  It is missing.
