Our schools show that children of different ages help one another. There are many things which no teacher can convey to a child of three, but a child of five can do it with ease. – Dr. Maria Montessori
Wow! Have we been busy this week!
We made borax crystal snowflakes. We also made (very disappointing) store-bought crystals. The borax crystals are much more magnificent.
After our snow day on Wednesday we returned to school on Thursday the 3rd to celebrate Lunar New Year! We started our day by reading Jon Muth’s version of Stone Soup. Muth’s version is told with a Zen-like perspective and three Monks are the travelers who make the soup with the villagers. Everybody was able to contribute an ingredient and our soup was very yummy. We will attach a copy of the recipe to this newsletter.
We enjoyed our soup with our lunch. With several children asking for seconds, we had little to no leftovers. After lunch instructors from the Capital District Tai Chi & Kung Fu Association performed the Chinese Lion Dance, a traditional dance which honors and celebrates the Lunar New Year. They also demonstrated calligraphy and Tai Chi movements.
Just a reminder: we go outside everyday (temperature permitting) — please make sure your child has
warm coat, snowpants, snow boots, water-proof mittens & a hat
to wear to play in.
When we returned to the classroom we enjoyed treats from James (gold chocolate coins in a red envelope for good luck) and George (candied fruit—lychee nuts, ginger, taro root and other yummies). Thank you James and George!
Don’t forget that on Monday February 14, we will have a small classroom celebration/gathering in recognition of Valentine’s Day. Your child should bring in 21 valentine’s cards to exchange with his/her classmates. If you have any questions about our gathering please do not hesitate to ask.
As always, if you should have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at 283.5400 or email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org . We will get back to you as soon as possible. !
