March 4

March 4, 2011 Dear Parents, Thank you to everyone who sent in sheets! We need more! If you haven’t yet sent in a sheet for your child (flat, white/cream), please do so, as we will be starting our unit on Ancient Rome next week; costume design will begin shortly thereafter. Today we enjoyed a game of Jeopardy!. Students teamed up to answer questions relating to Asia culture and geography. It was a nail biter to the end! We prefaced the game by watching a video clip of Alex Trebek as he introduced and explained the inner workings of Watson, the IBM-designed computer that eventually went on to compete against and win in an exhibition tournament with two previous Jeopardy winners. Students were also given a quiz on the respiratory system today. Next week, we will be beginning a unit on the nervous system. In language, we have been studying metaphors and similes, appositives and clauses. Fourth years have been working on paragraphing skills. In our math unit, we are putting the finishing touches on decimals and are beginning to touch on ratios, proportions and percentages. Over the next few weeks, we will also be focusing on integers and coordinates. March conferences: Friday, March 18th and Monday, March 21st. Please sign up with Meg in the Main Office if you would like a conference.
