March 11

Dear Families,

We have had a very busy couple of weeks since our return from vacation. The children are working feverishly to complete copies of their writers’ workshop stories.

They have written drafts, copies and are completing final copies (in pen) and illustrating some wonderful stories. These publishing kits will be sent out and returned as beautiful books! They are really excited about them.

The children enjoyed the Lake George Opera’s presentation of the Jack and the Beanstalk. The opera presents to our school annually and it is always a treat!

Unfortunately, I was not here to enjoy the program. I instead, was in NJ at a Montessori conference. It was wonderful to be with other Montessorians, hear the latest research, and do some professional development. It was very worthwhile.

Our field trip to the Albany Institute was excellent. The children enjoyed seeing the relics and artifacts in their Egyptian exhibit. We had a wonderful program, which was very interactive. Thank you to all the chaperones that had some time to join us. It was fascinating for everyone. The museum generously gave us Family Passes for a return trip ! Look in the Friday folders.

I am planning a spring field trip to the Berkshire Botanical Garden. We will be studying botany.

We also are going to see a production Jigsaw Jones at Proctor’s Theatre on May 17th (tickets have been pre-ordered).

We have started studying Europe this week. The children made unofficial passports that will be stamped as we study many European countries. They were excited to make their passports today and are interested in filling them with information. As with all our studies, if there is something of you would like to share with our class, we are accepting all loans! Books, pictures, artifacts, souvenirs, or even parent presentations are welcome. Send them in or just let us know.

I look forward to meeting with you for Parent/Teacher Conferences in the next few weeks.

I will be out of town on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the 14-16th . I am part of an AMS( American Montessori Society) Accreditation Team. I will be at Pioneer Valley School in Springfield, MA. Although, I am eager to serve in this professional capacity, I am just as excited to return to WHMS and sit on the rug with my class to teach the next set of lessons.

The class will be left in the capable hands of Kristi and a substitute teacher, Meagan.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Spring’s ahead,

-Julie
