After beginning the week with gloomy April showers, we were finally able to fully welcome Spring with warmth and sunshine over the past couple of days. We sent home snow pants, winter boots, hats and mittens throughout the week, so just keep an eye on the weather forecast if you’d like to start sending rain boots, spring jackets, etc. A note was also sent home in today’s folder asking for extra playground materials. Many thanks in advance if you are able to share some with us!
We spent time appreciating the art of Paul Cezanne this week, and the children loved hearing that he had a parrot whom he taught to say “Cezanne is a great painter” . We set up an easel and a still life table of apples and oranges that the children were eager to work on; their paintings are absolutely beautiful! On Thursday we also watched another DVD of “Madeline At The Louvre”, in which one of Madeline’s own paintings ends up on display at the famous museum. The children were inspired!
Our Shoebox Science was a “Vinegar Experiment”: we mixed baking soda with water, then with vinegar to see the different chemical reactions. We loved seeing and hearing the vinegar and baking soda mixture fizz and bubble! Our food prep this week was “Veggie Vipers”: we made snakes by cutting and alternating pieces of celery and carrots, used cherry tomatoes as the snake’s head, and painted veggie dip to stick them in a slithery pattern.
We have been hard at work on our Lois Ehlert-inspired books and can’t wait to share these, along with many other Writing Workshop stories with you next Friday, April 15th at 2:00! Invitations were sent home in today’s folders. Unfortunately, the publisher will not be mailing our “Someday I Hope” books in time; we should be getting those after returning from Spring Break.
Next week we will be busy visiting the country of Norway, celebrating Easter on Friday morning and preparing for our special Story Share on Friday afternoon. Just a reminder that the following week is Spring Break; we are off from Monday, April 18th until Friday, April 22nd. Enrichment will be available. Also FYI: the Primary classes will all be attending a Tiny Tots performance by the Albany Symphony on the morning of Monday, May 2nd. Details and permission forms will be sent home in next week’s folders.
As always, feel free to call us at school or email: email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or concerns.
